ALLOTMENT PLOTS TO LET!
Have you ever thought of growing your own fruit and vegetables? Maybe your exisiting garden is too small for your planting needs? A plot at Jubilee Allotments may be the solution! We have a few plots recently become available, varying in size from single plots which are 70 square metres to triple plots which are 210 square metres.
We are located in a tranquil spot on Bilton Hall Drive in Knaresborough and are surrounded by empty fields (except for the odd horse)! Allotments are a perfect way to relax after a hard day at work and are open until dusk every day. The cost varies from £30-75 per annum (yes per year!). So if you are interested please contact us. We would love to show you around.
A Brief Introduction
Welcome to the Jubilee Allotments, a site of eighty-six 70-square-metre plots for residents of Knaresborough and Starbeck.
In 2010 the Jubilee Allotments Association was established by Knaresborough Town Council. A healthy demand for allotments in the area led to the purchase of the site in late 2010. Situated on Bilton Hall Drive, the tranquil, rural site boasts distant views of Knaresborough over rolling meadows.
The first allotments were allocated in early 2011, and a community spirit emerged soon after. Thanks to the hard work of plot holders, their families and friends, Committee members past and present, and funders, the field has been transformed in a few years from rough pasture into productive vegetable gardens with access track, parking, complete deer and rabbit fencing, communal sheds and even an eco-friendly composting toilet!
Getting a water supply to the site has been an ongoing challenge, as there is no suitable source of piped water. Undeterred, plot holders have collected rain water off shed roofs, and we are currently building communal water stations to collect more.
This is a member-managed website that aims to keep members informed about events, fundraising activities and updates.
It also provides members with an opportunity to share photos, tips and news. Eventually we hope also to sell equipment, seeds and plants online.
If there's anything you'd like to add or announce please use the Contact Us form or Member Forum to let us know.
There was some discussion at the last Committee meeting about the Jubilee Allotments discussion forum, which, despite an encouraging number of registrants, is hardly being used. Hosting it doesn't cost a great deal, about £40 a year, but, as per the adage, if we're not really using it we might (as well) lose it.
If you feel you would like to keep the forum, do please get on there and start posting (maybe just about the fact that you'd like to keep the forum!). We'll be asking members at the AGM to vote on whether to keep it or delete it.
As ever, if you wish to contact me about the website or forum, please do so here.
